On 2 June, PSG officially announced Sergio Ramos’ departure. The Spanish central defender was at the end of his contract and the French champions decided not to renew it. His adventure in Ligue 1 ended at the same time as Messi’s. The pair joined, from LaLiga in 2021 and both lasted just two years. For Ramos, the first season at PSG was one to forget, but he recovered in his last season and managed to become a first-choice for Galtier.

In a way, Ramos’ departure was surprising. He had been an important part of the team last season and was expected to stay one for one final year, but the French club decided not to offer an extension and signed Milan Skriniar instead. Since last month, when it became official that he was not renewing with PSG, Sergio Ramos remains without a club – but despite that, he has not stopped training. The 37-year-old has uploaded a number of videos, detailing his solo training sessions on social media and plans to keep in shape for when a new club comes along.

MLS interest
The United States is where the most interest for Ramos is coming. The defender is wanted by a league that is keen to compete with Saudi Arabia and is trying to recruit well known players to relaunch the competition. Inter Miami have managed to take Messi, Busquets and Jordi Alba, but they are not interested in hiring Ramos. MLS wants their league to be more interesting and hopes another team can take on Beckham’s team.

One of the possible destinations for Ramos could be Los Angeles FC – Gareth Bale’s old club. LAFC appear to be one of the franchises with an interest in taking Ramos, who could end up partnering Chiellini. But for now there is nothing concrete and we will have to wait to find out if the player receives an offer from MLS and whether he is interested enough to accept.
