Betway Premier League Week 8: Van Gerwen set for sweet revenge over Van Barneveld

Betway Premier League Week 8: Van Gerwen set for sweet revenge over Van Barneveld (1)

MVG can avenge defeat in last year’s final against compatriot

Michael van Gerwen is in the form of his life at the moment and he should have no trouble picking up yet another win this Thursday in Dublin over Raymond van Barneveld in the Betway Premier League.MVG lifted the Gibraltar Darts Trophy on Sunday to make it seven tournament wins since the turn of the year. To put this into perspective, no one else has won more than one. He is the only undefeated player left in the Betway Premier League, and there is little reason to believe that will change on Thursday.Van Barneveld played brilliantly last week to upset Phil Taylor but he has been very inconsistent so far this year which is why he sits eighth in the table. He may have beaten Mighty Mike in the final of this event last year but he has lost all six meetings since and should be backed for another defeat this week at 4/7.Another man who had a good weekend in Gibraltar was James Wade, reaching the semi-finals of the European Tour event. His form has been impressive of late and he has a cracking record against Peter Wright, who he takes on this Thursday. 12 times the two have met and 10 times the Machine has triumphed, including each of the last seven contests.Snakebite is not at his best at the moment whilst Wade is nearing his, making the Machine a cracking bet at 6/5.It is rare a week goes by in the Betway Premier League without a draw and the most likely candidate in Dublin is the clash between Adrian Lewis and Dave Chisnall. The pair drew in this competition last year and have a completely level head-to-head record at eight wins a piece.Backing the draw always seems like a bit of a punt, but at 7/2 it is well worth doing.Elsewhere there should be wins for Gary Anderson and Phil Taylor over Stephen Bunting and Kim Huybrechts respectively. The Flying Scotsman and the Power have both been consistently impressive this campaign, even in defeat. The same cannot be said about the Bullet or the Hurricane. Bunting seems to be picking up points without playing particularly well but will not have enough against Anderson. Huybrechts is really struggling and sits bottom of the table. He has lost all eight matches he has played against Taylor and will make it nine out of nine this week. The world champion should be backed at 8/13 whilst the best player in history looks good at 8/15.Adrian Lewis v Dave Chisnall – Draw @ 7/2Gary Anderson to win @ 8/13James Wade to win @ 6/5Michael van Gerwen to win @ 4/7Phil Taylor to win @ 8/15
