The Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals will be going head-to-head in a few days, and they are going to fight it out in contrasting team colors.

The Bengals, as the AFC Champions, are considered the “home” team, because the AFC is the host for even-numbered Super Bowls (which Super Bowl LVI is). So, although the game will be held in the Rams’ home stadium, they are considered the visiting team.

Choice of the Bengals

The NFL rulebook says the home team decides which color jersey it will wear first, so Cincinnati got to pick which uniform they would suit up in.

Most home teams choose to wear darker uniforms at home, and this is what Cincinnati decided to do. The team will be wearing black jerseys and white pants with orange trim, with socks to match- a uniform they have already worn this season.

Going against superstition

Superstitious fans would probably think this is not the best decision, because teams who don white jerseys during Super Bowl Sunday have lifted 14 of the last 17 Lombardi trophies.

Also, the Bengals wore white when they beat the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tennessee Titans on their way to the championship, so it would seem like white has been a lucky color for them recently. It looks like Cincinnati is not superstitious, as they have opted to buck the trend.
