Cain Velasquez chose to take the law into his hands

Velasquez is reported to have been shooting at a man he believed had molested a child related to the 39-year-old, according to several news sites. The man, however, was in a vehicle with his stepfather, who was struck by the bullet. According to the San Jose Police Department, he is expected to survive his injuries.

The ex-MMA American fighter is currently being held without bail at the Santa Clara County jail. Velasquez is set for a court date on Wednesday, with the motive of the incident still under investigation.

Who is Cain Velasquez?

Velasquez (14-3) has been considered one of MMA’s greatest heavyweight fighters for a long time. Unfortunately for the American though, several injuries ended his career prematurely after derailing his prime years as a fighter. The Mexican-born went on a flawless 9-0 run, that included a first-round knockout of Pride and UFC star Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, to capture the UFC heavyweight championship by beating Brock Lesnar through first-round TKO. Velasquez also claimed his first title defense against Junior dos Santos and defeated him in their trilogy bout.
